The Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity:
An invitation to a transformation of life in communion with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
At the heart of the Christian faith and spirituality lies the most sublime and, at the same time, the deepest mystery of our faith – the Most Holy Trinity. For the Community of the Family of Saint Michael the Archangel (Familia Sancti Michaelis Archangeli), this mystery is not merely a theological dogma intended for academic debate, but a living source, a fundamental model and the ultimate goal of our daily life, prayer and apostolate. To live in full communion with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit means to enter into the inner dynamism of divine love, which transforms us from within and enables us to be witnesses to the Kingdom of Heaven in the world.
1. The Father – The Source of life and unconditional love.
Our relationship with God the Father forms the solid foundation of our spiritual identity. In the prayer which Jesus Christ himself taught us – the Lord’s Prayer – we experience a fatherhood that far transcends earthly categories.
● Creative providence: God the Father is the One who called us into being out of pure love and who, with infinite care, sustains every moment of our lives.
● Acceptance and trust: In communion with the Father, we are freed from fear and an orphan mentality. We learn to live with deep trust that our needs are being met, and we embrace our identity as God’s beloved children.
● The Father’s will as the path to peace: To live in communion with the Father means to harmonise our will with His, for He knows best what serves our sanctification and true happiness.
2. The Son – Love Incarnate, the Saviour and the Gateway to communion.
Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, is the face of the invisible Father. In Him, divine love became tangible, redeemed through suffering and victorious through the Resurrection.
● Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life: We realise communion with the Son through a personal relationship with Him, through reading the Holy Scriptures and, above all, through participation in the Eucharist, which is the source and summit of Christian life.
● Following in self-sacrificing love: Jesus calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. Communion with the Son shapes us towards humility, mercy and a willingness to serve our neighbours, especially the most vulnerable and those in need.
● A Christ-centred spirit of community: In our family community, Christ
is the centre of all our activities – He is the One who binds us together, unites our diverse gifts and gives meaning to our service.
3. The Holy Spirit – The inner giver of life, the Life-giver and the Comforter.
The Holy Spirit is the bond of love between the Father and the Son and, at the same time, the gift poured into our hearts. Without the Holy Spirit, faith would be nothing more than a dead set of rules.
● The Temple of the Holy Spirit: Our soul becomes the dwelling place of God. The Holy Spirit dwells within us, purifies us and continually transforms us into the image of Jesus Christ.
●
The Giver of Charisms and Strength: In the Community of St Michael the Archangel, we are particularly mindful of the need for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, who bestows upon us the gifts (wisdom, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and the fear of God) necessary for the spiritual battle against the forces of darkness.
● Inner peace and inspiration: It is the Holy Spirit who guides us in our decisions, imbues our prayer with depth, and grants us inner peace even amidst life’s storms.
How can we live out the Trinity in our daily lives?
Full communion with the Most Holy Trinity is not reserved solely for mystics in monasteries, but is part of the everyday life of every member of our family and community. The following steps help us to deepen this unity:
● Practising the awareness of God’s presence: Being mindful throughout the day that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit dwell in a state of grace within our hearts. Short, spontaneous prayers (“Lord, I trust in you”, “Come, Holy Spirit”) can connect the hustle and bustle of work with eternity.
● Building a community of love: The Trinity is a community of persons united by perfect love. We too, as the Familia Sancti Michaelis Archangeli, are called to build relationships based on forgiveness, mutual respect, sincerity and self-sacrifice.
● Holy Mass and the sacraments: Every Eucharist is the supreme form of worship of the Most Holy Trinity. In it, we are drawn into the eternal dialogue of love between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit through the sacrifice of the Lamb.
The Most Holy Trinity is our home. From it we came, and to it we are drawn. May the Community of Saint Michael the Archangel be a living reflection of this divine love – a community where the Father’s providential love, Christ’s redeeming grace and the holiness of the Holy Spirit reign. With the protection of Saint Michael the Archangel, who defends us against the evil that divides us, let us today say our free ‘yes’ to this profound and transforming community.
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Cor 13:13)
